So when various mayors say they truly understand and respect peaceful protesters - yet then their own police get violent toward those protesters - does this mean the mayors do not have control of their police forces? Actions speak louder than words.

A strong leader would tell there police force obey my directives or find a new job. Those who violate the law will prosecuted regardless of their vocation. Then start to fire people as they disobey.

I know cops, have had friend who were cops. They operate according to their own set of rules as much as they can. Generally, they are not friends of politicians. I'm sure I'm not saying something you don't already know and that your question is rhetorical.

I’ve seen beautiful photos of police kneeling with protestors and holding their hands, hugging protestors and saying I’m with you. Why aren’t these images being shown on mainstream media channels? Accentuate the good and the good grows.

When people peacefully protested against the tyranny against our governor, we were arrested accused of being selfish for endangering people's lives and safety. Can I receive a list of protest and grievences that are acceptable?
