2/ Protests over the George Floyd murder have led to unprovoked rounds of tear gas and rubber bullets sent into crowds of peaceful protesters. The role of the police is to protect the Constitutional rights of peaceful protesters - not attack or intimidate them. Everyone be safe.

That's not the role of the police. The fist of the State has one purpose, enforce the will of the State. If the peaceful protest were armed arguably, the police would be reluctant to engage them. The State only understands one language, Violence.

Maybe this is your interpretation, but our Supreme Court ruled that police duty is NOT to protect us. Perhaps this needs to be reformed. Police should be privatized and work for citizens.
