1/ Everything that’s happening was inevitable given the basic heartlessness now entrenched within our economic and political system. While that heartlessness reaches an apex in Trump, it has been there for a long time. Republicans promulgated it and Democrats too often went along

2/ Cornell West was right when he said the system has proven “incapable of reforming itself.” We know at this point what to expect from Trump, but Congressional leaders should be listening up and taking heed.

3/ It’s reasonable to expect nothing but a crackdown law-and-order mentality from McConnell, but @SpeakerPelosi and @JoeBiden could at this moment break free of their neo-liberal container, reclaim the soul of the Democratic Party, and actually make a difference. I hope they do.

4/ Trump is already having military units prepared to deploy to Minneapolis. If democratic party leadership doesn’t come up with a plan for bold fundamental changes it will be a huge strategic mistake. The era of politics as usual is over; need for enlightened leadership now here

The "soul of the Dem Party" is left in the hands of an 80 year old petulant woman and a 77 year old doddering white man who, combined,, have served nearly a century in DC. Sad.
Joe and Nancy will never, ever do the right thing. They will rather go down with "the ship," than cross their corporate owners, in any way.

Appreciate you, Marianne. But Dem leadership is the same evil/architects/profiteers as GOP.
What's the chances that's going to happen, None to Nil.

The evidence is all around them ... If they don't see it ... or ... if they do see it and are afraid to act ... afraid that someone might criticize them for asking for too much ... then in either case ... they have no business being there ...
You don’t get it Marianne. Resolutely restoring the FDR-Truman-JFK ethos is the only viable political path fwd for non-conservatives. See my op-ed on #JFK’s birthday: laprogressive.com/we-dont-kn… Today’s quisling Democratic elites OPPOSE any return to JFK’s public interest presidency.
