I have an argument with a friend where I support free college, Medicare4All, Green New Deal etc. & she tells me we need an "incremental approach;" that such things are "too far left." I tell her they're centrist in Europe. She says "We're not Europe." I bang my head against a wall

That person should be downgraded to, "acquaintance."

Eh. I can't be close with people who are selfish enough to argue against basic rights for others. But eh, good for you I guess.

She's not selfish at all. We just see things differently.

It is selfish to argue that people shouldn't immediately have affordable healthcare and a living wage. You know her, of course, but that mindset is selfish. She's not affected so of course she thinks it's radical. Maybe she's not selfish outright, but she's misguided at least.

What if she wanted to continue slavery? Where do ppl like you draw the line? At some point you either bend towards your integrity or your friendship. Fence straddling never served any movement for real change.

This is a great mentality to have. Thanks for leading by example.
Of course selfish people see things differently. That's how that works. Racists see things differently. Misogynists see things differently. Nazis see things differently. Seeing things differently is not a justification for dooming others to poverty and death.
