I have an argument with a friend where I support free college, Medicare4All, Green New Deal etc. & she tells me we need an "incremental approach;" that such things are "too far left." I tell her they're centrist in Europe.She says "We're not Europe." I bang my head against a wall

If you want to find that stuff voluntarily, so be it. You lose all moral standing when you do it through the force of govt taxation and inflation. You cannot steal and then try and feel better about it by giving it away. (After taking a cut)

Free everything sounds great, but someone has to pay for it. I do believe everyone should have access to healthcare, but Medicare for all isn’t the answer. Our current system needs to be completely overhauled to survive with that payment structure.

I get sick, I go to my local health clinic, I get treated, I ask for the bill, I'm told that there is no charge, and that this is why I pay taxes. I'm a US Citizen and I live in Europe.

Your friend is right - we are not Europe... Neither culturally nor ethnically. Our historical foundation is different as are the value systems that emerged from that experience. Most people I know don’t want a gov’t mandated “freebie.” They just want an opportunity.

Americans like living on the edge, by the seat of their pants and one illness away from ruin. If they could feel the sense of safety and community that you get from having strong social safety nets in a compassionate capitalist society like Denmark then they would demand it NOW
