I have an argument with a friend where I support free college, Medicare4All, Green New Deal etc. & she tells me we need an "incremental approach;" that such things are "too far left." I tell her they're centrist in Europe. She says "We're not Europe." I bang my head against a wall

Here you are banging your head against the wall when it should be your friend that bangs their head against the wall. But I'm convinced now that the pat answer: "We're not Europe" is a pre-regurgitated centrist talking point because I've heard it too.

Ask her to imagine not seeing a doctor or dentist for 20 years even if she is sick or in pain, and maybe incremental will stop sounding reasonable. Incremental only appeals to people who arent going without, and are ok with other people going without.

I bang my head when progressives get defensive. You must take the offensive with richt (yes, richt) wingers. "You realize that you sound like a Trumper, only for a different guy? There's this test, I'm curious just how authoritarian you are." This link: home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~alteme…

I'd bet she also says "we're better than Europe"...

At this point in time incremental feels like we are going backwards so yeah, the time is now for the full push for these things. We as nation can afford to do such and we need real leadership to give the people what they want and need

My response: funny considering every country in Europe seems to be happier than the United States. If #COVID19 has taught us anything it's that we all want financial security studyindenmark.dk/news/denma…

I know how you feel. If we want better let’s get on with it!

It's pretty clear much of the country has had enough incrementalism, as we're seeing right now.
