I have an argument with a friend where I support free college, Medicare4All, Green New Deal etc. & she tells me we need an "incremental approach;" that such things are "too far left." I tell her they're centrist in Europe. She says "We're not Europe." I bang my head against a wall

We are NOT Europe. We are a gigantic, diverse, hodgepodge of states and regions! We are NOT one country, really. We are just pretending to be one. We can not implement “one size fits all” measures here. It’s NOT left versus right. It’s not ideology or politics!!

"incremental" = corporate-approved The ways laws get passed in America is that corporate handlers approve which laws get pushed/passed. FOR EXAMPLE = America does not have universal health insurance like every other modern country because the Health Insurance Cos block it

Let me ask this..and not being provocative either. Why after witnessing all levels of government bungle the response to this pandemic, watching them bungle foreign policy, bungle Farm policy and already bungle health care...why would you want them to be in charge of more things?

Did you ask her if she believes that we are “The Greatest Country in the World“? Because if we are, we really shouldn’t be running behind all of Europe. Especially when it deals with taking care of our people, “We the People"

So because we are American. We can't have nice things 🤔. American exceptionalism at its best.

You're right over here in Europe (UK) these things are normal it isn't a LEFT or RIGHT it's what's good for your people, sometimes I think some of the USA Citizens don't like their fellow citizens.

Those one-liners get us every time💙
Your friend has the benefit of privilege. You can only hope she loses her job, healthcare, retirement savings, etc to help her gain empathy because clearly there's no other way for some folks until they've felt it. Let me guess though -- boomer?

Next time just stop at “what if told you they’re actually centrist?”

Your friend is part of the problem. You should tell her so.
