I have an argument with a friend where I support free college, Medicare4All, Green New Deal etc. & she tells me we need an "incremental approach;" that such things are "too far left." I tell her they're centrist in Europe. She says "We're not Europe." I bang my head against a wall

And people don't get that we've never reached anything with incrementalism by design. Though we have made incremental changes, they were never by design. Any time you have two changes in a row, people think of them as incremental and that's as much as it has ever been.

It's an excuse to not do anything. In many ways those citizens have it much better than Americans. The good old "freedom" excuse is running out.

Did you tell her that most of Europe has negative bond rates. That the banks HAVE TO by bonds to keep governments working? Europe is broke... and moving toward the 3rd world economically. Poverty is skyrocketing.

My dad, a Trump supporter: We need to reopen the economy. Me: *casually mentions how long Wuhan remained in an even more strict quarantine than ours* Dad: Well they can do that! Me: But we, the so-called greatest country in the world, can't? That's pretty sad innit? Dad: crickets

It’s only “too far left” because people are convinced that these policies won’t pass through Congress. People like and support these policies, but congresspeople won’t listen for the sake of profits

She is either rich enough that it doesn't matter or gets all her opinions from cable news.
