1/ 40% of Americans didn’t know what they’d do with a $400 unexpected expenditure even before this happened. A $1200 one time payment plus expanded unemployment did not provide them “liquidity,” as Mnuchin had the audacity to put it.

2/ Another $1200 payment has been suggested, called by the Republicans a “socialist wishlist.” Millions haven’t & can’t pay their rent, lie awake at night wondering how to feed their kids, not even thinking of seeking medical help should they be sick because they cannot afford it

3/ Other countries froze their economies, provide ongoing #directcashrelief, and do more to put the safety and well-being of their citizens first. Other countries pity us now & we should pity ourselves. An American govt “of, by, and for the people” has “perished from the earth.”

Was it ever really of, by, and for anyone who couldn't afford a boat?

Make your damn point but quit this "other countries" BS. Other countries do not have our Constitution; 50 independent states; 380+ Million ppl; 3.8 mil sq miles of territory; Millions of immigrants both legal and not. For God's sake we're not Sweden, Denmark, France, etc.

Wish you hadn't dropped out too early--like so many others--when WE SO NEED CIVIC DISCOURSE! Don't agree with your phrase that we "should pity ourselves" (& surprised that you would put that out there in the universe) but the rest of your tweet is quite accurate...& distressing!

The question is ... can this country and it's people survive until January 2021 ...

One-time payments is not thinking big enough. Crediting @umairh on this one, the real perspective is the entire system itself is broken. I call it extreme capitalism, where the "weak" are left to die. Weak being defined, of course, by the GOP as "poor."

I fear the democracy is perishing before our eyes. Bullying, nacissim labeled as freedom are taking the place of self sacrifice, and looking out for vulnerable neighbors.

You're exactly right, Marianne. Ongoing #directcashrelief is necessary.

The simple fix is opening the economy. States that didn't shut down have very little issues. Countries that didn't shutdown have very little issue. Socialist's states are handcuffing everyone to get bailouts.
