1/ Imagine a single mother living in a small apartment with two kids. One of them has a behavioral or physical disorder. She’s ineligible for unemployment and she doesn’t know where they’ll get food in a week or two. And remember there are millions in her situation and even worse

2/ As the days drag on she finds it harder & harder to cope. She starts screaming at the kids, crying uncontrollably & having panic attacks. The system that has failed her now has the audacity to say the problem is with her mental health. But no it's not. The problem is with us.

3/ Love isn't the only face of God. So is Justice. To say we should love a hungry person is not enough; we also need to feed them. Our problem is not just the myriad societal dysfunctions that plague us; our biggest problem is the economic injustice that created so many of them.

4/ Such are the things we should think about now. We need to imagine, articulate and plan for the society we'll have to build on the other side of this. As soon as the crisis is over we need to hit the ground running. We need to be imaginal cells out of which will emerge the new.

The sad part is... It doesn’t need to be this way. The U.S. Govt. has adequate money needed to ameliorate unnecessary human suffering.... but they have chosen to withhold it. The problem is not a lack of resources...The problem is a lack of empathy, compassion and decency.

We’re all connected. It matters what happens to everyone. The complete lack of any empathy or compassion in this administration is disturbing beyond belief. “Tell everyone on this train I love them.”- Taliesin Namkai-Meche ❤️🙏💙 youtube.com/YNAkeOMAiN8

And in times of hardship, when every person is most concerned with getting by and steering themselves through stormy waters - these are the times when we must reach out and help others, not ourselves. We all breathe the same air, as we are learning.

This is absolutely heartbreaking to read. But I am a single mother, and while my situation is not here (anymore) it was once, and I have not forgotten. The lack of empathy informing "policy" is pathological, and the reliance on the rich and powerful to guide us, completely wrong.

What do we do? It’s so heartbreaking to watch the leadership who CAN help, won’t.
