I am watching this unfold for you in the USA from the UK and it is staggering including the rush to buy arms. I cry for you.
It seems lessons have to be relearned

And a LOT of pressure from Corporate entities, gets handed down to the managers... and then to MY fiances schedule, which suddenly boosted to 6-7days a week with the same hours, picking up slack of those who are getting paid to sit on their asses How the 🍪 crumbles. Who else?

I appreciate your analogy, but you undermine your own argument. Though the ship was going down, those locked in steerage were unable to fight for their lives. For many, being on lockdown will lead to certain demise. People just want the freedom to go down fighting.
