American capitalism has become more focused on short-term profit over the last few decades, and in some cases that’s appropriate. What’s inappropriate is their undue financial influence on government, which should always be thinking and acting in favor of long-term societal good.

I’ve watched police, fire and teacher unions go for short-term profit at the expense of local communities for the last few decades more than I’ve seen businesses do it.
