If you’ve made it into the club in America - if you’re within the circle of institutional compassion either through luck or finance - then no place could be better. The critical problem in America today is that not enough people can make it into the club. Not enough get a chance.

Marianne - i agree with your general point - but I think that the critical question is a bit different: It’s not how do we get more or different people in the club, it’s how do we make it so the club doesn’t matter - so that life is good outside the club, too
