Scientists have a voice in Washington, but they lack political power. They lack financial leverage - their advice doesn’t often increase short term corporate profits - and it’s money, not wisdom, that runs DC. Until we get the money out of politics, such insanity will prevail.

Yes... And: They're so locked into identity and this narrative of scarcity (there's not enough resources and thus competition is necessary) by the sunk cost fallacy that the only way they'll ever change is if they have no other choice.
