The system we have now is not guided by compassion, it is guided by amoral economic principles. The shadow side of American capitalism is literally an unsustainable organizing principle for a survivable 21st century. Ethics and concern for the common good must be our bottom line.

Good point. But with all this happening it's hard to think there's actually a bright side in US.
Or another way of putting it, we are on a train heading off a cliff together. The Republicans are shoveling coal to stoke the engines and the Democrats are offering better food and music in the passenger cars.

Who said this originally? Pol Pot? Sounds like something he would say. Free markets and capitalism are the only thing that have worked. They fail, to the degree that government interferes with them. Them's the facts, whether they hurt your feelings or not.

Hi Marianne, Iโ€™m a small business owner, I have a creative Animal Rights apparel line, eco friendly. Many of my peers dislike capitalism or entrepreneurship as they consider capitalism the root of many oppressions. How do navigate a business in this climate?

When you say common good what are you talking about illegals coming into our country for no good reason or Americans who need help and are willing to work for a living and not a free ride like socialism wake up Marrianne your on the devils team

You're wrong. The problem isn't that we are using economic principles but that we aren't using them at all. This is not capitalism in the slightest, and calls for "the common good" are made by tyrants, not people with genuine intentions.
