This pandemic could have been anything. It could have been a bio-weaponry disaster or nuclear disaster or weather disaster or food disaster. When this is over, we must change our national priorities from short term gain for a few to the long-term well-being of everyone.

This country reminds me of a couple in an abusive relationship where the abused remains despite it being a threat to their lives after repeated brutal incidents of abuse and lies and apologies. I'm not sure any disaster can break that history of abuse, pain & codependence.
