I do not understand how a one- time payment of $1200 is going to be enough. It’s not just whether or not the virus will be kept at bay; it’s whether or not despair will be kept at bay. Putting tens of millions of people at risk for such intense anxiety is a recipe for disaster.

In NZ we are in complete lockdown except for essential services. Anyone who cannot work due to this is entitled to $580 a week until we get back to work. We do not have the wealth in our country that the US does. You can do much better. The people need to demand better.

Not to mention that we needed that money yesterday. And most people who really need it won't get it anyway.

I think they're doing it this way because they want ppl to be desperate. Desperate people are easy to control. Desperate ppl will work for $3/hr. But there's a certain point where desperate ppl revolt. I think this will backfire.

This amount won't even pay one month of rent for me. Both my husband and I cannot work right now. His place of work closed. Mine is open, but I was told by my doctor not to work because I'm high risk. I work in retail. I'll have to go back to work and risk getting the virus.
