I do not understand how a one- time payment of $1200 is going to be enough. It’s not just whether or not the virus will be kept at bay; it’s whether or not despair will be kept at bay. Putting tens of millions of people at risk for such intense anxiety is a recipe for disaster.

The $1,200 gives them cover to claim they're "doing something," while keeping the actual agenda in place: drive millions of people into desperation, resulting in riots and looting, giving the Trump's fascist regime an excuse to eventually declare martial law.

Within weeks, some sector of society will driven to engage in riots and looting (out of desperation). This will give heavily-armed fascist thugs an excuse to hit the streets. It will also give the Trump regime an excuse to consolidate power. It's all a script; a fascist playbook.

At best, that may pay for 1 month of Cobra coverage so that those who just lost their jobs can extend their employer-sponsored health insurance. Then what? Do they risk foreclosure/eviction & pay that premium instead, so they can still have medical coverage during this pandemic?

I don’t know where we find the money to pay more. The federal debt is already trillions. However the $1200 is not enough for housing AND food AND medication for one month for most families.

At least it’s something, for now. The Govt can always meet again to discuss further economic support.

It's obvious our government isn't handling this pandemic well and either are citizens.

Then what is your recommendation Marianne? Send nothing? Send more? Send $1,200 weekly? And include the back end of the plan...aka how to afford it.

It’s enough to make a few people vote for Trump in November. That’s really what that $1200 is for.

You're exactly right. Universal Basic Income is needed.
