So much talk about how we have to love each other in order to survive the tragedy. Yet when loving each other is proposed in order to prevent such tragedies to begin with, it’s too often met with cynicism or derision as though an unintelligent suggestion. Perhaps that will change

I've been wondering why we can't behave like this every day. There's some crisis in the world every day. We could force people to not price gouge and hoard every day.

That’s the point now. If all we do is treat the problem but not its underlying cause, then a fundamental course-correction will not occur and another symptom will ultimately rise.

The time to act is now. This is somewhat analogous to what happens in the aftermath of a mass shooting. We briefly wake up to the reality there's a problem, then life goes and nothing changes.
