Let's just focus on the prayers and let the naysayers for prayer take care of themselves. You can't challenge them into silence, Marianne. If you challenge them you only feed their cynicism and negativity.

I'm thinking about the time you talked about the hurricane, what happened afterward, and why that cost you so much. You were right to say there is no operative diffc between saying "minds joined can turn away the storm" and "prayers offered to turn away the storm." True, but...

... in the first case one hears "I can cause this outcome" and in the second one hears "Something greater than myself, hear my plea for a desired outcome." The agency is viewed as different, and this diffc is crucial for some believers. For non-deists, no prayer can satisfy...
