Most evolved society blends capitalism & socialism, honoring both individual freedom & care for the common good. Few countries (including ours: police and fire dept are essentially socialist) all one or the other. The market good at some things, public investment better at others

Dear America, beyond our bunker of armed words lives the truth that in the end is all that will matter. Empathy and compassion must be applicable to all. Democracy like religion like science should serve all people equally. #Yesrising

Trouble is there is no economic description of that model and hence no -ism name. Give it meaningful -ism name and an accompanying definition then we would be all set. The political argument would then be about how to make it work equally for all.

You have the best way of explaining this. 💯

"...police and fire dept are essentially socialist..." I view these as social services supported by a capitalist economy, not *socialism*.

A total or pure capitalist society will never survive because it will eventually need to deal with the poverty it creates or it will collapse

When Big Pharma owns our politicians, their products are mandated on us against our will.

1/2Medicine does not lend itself to the capitalistic model where price rises as demand rises and then falls when demand falls. You can’t just stop taking insulin, high blood pressure medication, etc. because the price is high.1/2

2/2 Capitalism is to blame for why we do not have new antibiotics. Pharm companies don’t want to develop something that will be saved for the tough cases. Can’t make money when it is used sparingly. Which by supply/demand means it should be cheap but it will be very expensive.2/2

Exactly Marianne! I don’t think we should go full Socialist but we need capitalism with a conscience
