Tens of millions of Americans have no real hope of participating in a vibrant economy. They live each day to serve the economy; the economy does not serve them. They survive but they do not thrive. Healthcare and access to higher education could literally be a lifeline for them.

In the richest, most powerful democracy in the world there should not be so many economically desperate people. Low unemployment rates mask the deeper reality of almost 40 million people living in poverty. An incremental approach to fixing this is morally wrong. We can fix it now

We need to be conscious of this all of the time. Not just around elections. How many of us know people with vehicles to get to work in rural areas? Or who are on medicaid? I work with these folks.
