I look at thousands and thousands of young people of every color, ethnicity, sexuality etc., all excited about the possibility of political change and it makes me very happy. Other people look at that same phenomenon and feel threatened. That is the real contest, the subtext here

The very of America is so audacious - that everyone is created equal by God and therefore should have equal power and opportunity - that every generation has to play out the age-old contest between royalism and democracy. The contest is re-enacted in every era. Now it’s our turn.

I’m totally inclusive. None of this has anything to do with the use of the word “God.” What’s important is the application of love. Some who say they believe in God are loving, and some are not. It’s the practice and experience of love that matters.

Love the observation, but share this objection. Can we articulate in secular terms that all should be considered equal (before the law, deserving of opportunity etc.) while acknowledging that we're on track toward greater equality of opportunity over time? A worthwhile journey...
