The American people have been trained over the last few decades to expect too little. Universal healthcare & easy access to higher education is what the citizens in a prosperous society should expect and do expect in other countries. It’s part of our “right to pursue happiness.”

The reason we don’t have universal healthcare or free higher education is so the marketplace can continue to rule. But that’s economically self-defeating for the country. When people are healthier & more educated, they’re more productive and by definition add more to the economy.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of scholarships, grants & employer-funding options for people that want to attend college in the US. But like anything else in life it involves choices, and sometimes compromises. Why should people that don't attend pay for those that do?
1
Because the entire economy is better off when more people are educated. It allows more people to participate in it, which is the best way to promote prosperity for all.

The sentiment is correct, but technically "inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness" is from the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution. Does that carry legal weight?
1
No of course it doesn’t carry legal weight. But it’s America’s mission statement, what John Adams called “our first principles.” Our emotional and psychological connection to the Declaration of Independence is almost as important as our legal connection to the constitution.

Ain’t gonna happen as long as political bribery remains legal.

That’s why we need a constitutional amendment to establish public funding for federal campaigns.

Corporatism is US fascism. We have to fight if we want these programs and to end inequality. Implementing these projects are not a question about affordability, it's about our political priorities.
