40% of Americans couldn’t cover a $1,000 unexpected expenditure. That’s not just an economic disadvantage; it’s a source of chronic tension & anxiety. If our political establishment wants to help with the mental health crisis it might start by not leaving so many in such despair.

That is awful, and it’s why we need Medicare for all.

...and UBI, and free tuition, and fair fax rates. Economic justice isn’t some far left socialist conspiracy. It’s simply a way to embody the idea that “God gave all men the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

The American plutocracy only cares about the poor to the extent that they don't try to start a revolution. A podcast episode on governance: ishinobu.com/podcasts/politi…

You’re correct, $1,000 extra for the poorest, maybe comes to them once a year, maybe a income tax return. That’s when the poor get tires, shoes, jackets, whatever they can squeeze out of the tax return money, if they receive any. Such stress just for day to day survival. So sad.

I recently read that 44% of our fellow citizens "get by" on $18,000 or less annually. I don't understand how this can be.

Thanks for working in mental health to all of this. It always seems to be left behind.

I'd like to recommend a new book by Stephanie Kelton called "The Deficit Myth" It's about Modern Monetary Theory & explains how we could be affording much more public spending on social programs. Everyone says "How do you pay for it?" it explains why austerity isn't necessary.

RE: "Health"care in general, just think how many people are going to contract, carry, and spread this coronavirus and NEVER seek nor receive ANY professional "sick" care. Appreciate all you stand for Marianne. Thank you.

Exactly...and what happens if that same 40% gets this caronavirus and has to be out 2-4 weeks without pay.
