The most evolved contemporary society has elements of both capitalism & socialism, in approportionate relationship that protects both individual freedom & care for the common good. This shouldn’t be either/or but rather both/and. It’s not a binary choice in theory or in practice.

capitalism as a system depends on accumulation of resources and a system where wealth is the same as political influence cannot by definition be inclusive of all. this doesn’t even address the issue of exploitation of labor value by capitalists. socialism or barbarism

I believe capitalism can have a conscience. It depends on the consciousness of those who exercise it.

Sadly, even the fabled strong social democracies ("socialism") of Scandinavia & Europe have suffered damage to public sectors which appear to be in the process of being dismantled. The force of capital is relentless, even where it was thought to be subdued. Give it an inch...

I believe that too. How can a thing not work when reverence is present.
The conscience is taxes. What does $23 trillion in debt tells you? #DeferredTaxes Who is getting wealthier while the country borrows more and more? Who will repay the debt?
Alot of leftists choose to use the textbook definition of capitalism to say it will put profit over ppl always, like humans can't change the words we invented. In practice yes it is profits over ppl currently, but what if the govt enacted laws to counter it and enforce it?

those who exercise it have proven not to have a consciousness—at least not re: capital A system that rewards and encourages alienation, exploitation, and commodification of ppl is devoid of consciousness, and for that matter, love. ily but it’s an issue on which i disagree w/ u.

How can it have conscience when it depends on the exploitation of free gifts from nature?
That implies we have to depend on the benelovence of our capitalist rulers. When we are perfectly capable of governing ourselves. Socialism is democracy.
