The most evolved contemporary society has elements of both capitalism & socialism, in approportionate relationship that protects both individual freedom & care for the common good. This shouldn’t be either/or but rather both/and. It’s not a binary choice in theory or in practice.

But how they're mixed makes all the difference. Do we go with a social democracy or democratic socialism? Those are two very different things and I'm afraid a lot of people don't realize this.

Incorrect. Profit either accrues to those who labor to create it, or it’s appropriated by a small, powerful ownership class. The latter (Capitalism) is exploitation and shouldn’t be tolerated in any degree.
