Biggest problem with misuse & abuse of US military power is it leaves us w/out moral authority to apply it when it’s the right thing to do. We should use force when:US is directly threatened, an ally directly threatened, or humanitarian order of the world is directly threatened.

We need to put far more emphasis on peace-creation (which for the most part we hardly do at all). Peace is not the absence of war; war is the absence of peace. Peacebuilding is achieved through humanitarian and educational support, particularly when applied to women and children.

Our defense budget should reflect legitimate security needs but instead reflects hundreds of billions above that. Bloomberg said it’s good because it reflects what it will take “to fight the wars of the future.” The only way to win the future is to use that money to create peace.

This coalition building to maintain and restore peace is more important than rushing into conflicts. The US could be a much better member of the United Nations. Our nation has scoffed at the UN often in recent times. Eleanor Roosevelt would be disappointed.
Really? What military resources are useful for healthcare?
I agree with your sentiment about the past, but I think the answer to your question is that very real humanitarian crises do happen (Syria for example). Their suffering doesn’t go away or deserve less attention just because the potential exists to profit from their crisis.

There have been cases where military intervention on behalf of humanity has been just and necessary: Hitler and Nazi Germany.
