Difference between reparations & race-based policies is that reparations carry moral authority. They mean acknowledgement of a debt owed & willingness on the part of a people to pay it. That brings psychological, emotional & spiritual healing that actually interrupts the pattern.

But we don’t just need another “study.” We need to put a plan on the table already, negotiate a number and appoint a reparations council of descendants of American enslaved persons to disburse the funds. Nothing less will free us from the continuing trajectory of systemic racism.

How can you possibly put a number on such a program? Or decide who pays what, and who receives what? Reparations would be messy and not some sort of magical end to racial issues in this country.
