Difference between reparations & race-based policies is that reparations carry moral authority. They mean acknowledgement of a debt owed & willingness on the part of a people to pay it. That brings psychological, emotional & spiritual healing that actually interrupts the pattern.

But we don’t just need another “study.” We need to put a plan on the table already, negotiate a number and appoint a reparations council of descendants of American enslaved persons to disburse the funds. Nothing less will free us from the continuing trajectory of systemic racism.

I hear you and I'm for it as long as we begin with Native Americans.

Honestly, I don't actually know that many blacks who feel strongly about reparations.Dealing with institutional violence & race based inequality concerns many of us much much more. A check is easy & to me a pat on the head. But we're not a monolith.

Neither carry any moral authority. Both carry Bread of Shame. The entire notion of "reparations" - payment to those who never were slaves by those who never owned slaves - is morally repugnant.

You need to convince @BernieSanders to get serious about ecomomic justice for 🇺🇸Blacks. #Reparations for #ADOS

Exactly. Our country not only needs a new Administration. It needs a healing that begins with confession & agknowledgement of our explotation (past & present) of others.

The time to do reparations was when the slaves were freed. To do it now would be to transfer from people who committed no crime to people who have not themselves been victimized. A #UBI is the closest thing to reparations that is ethically possible this far out.

What debt? What facts do you have that I owned slaves? Or any of my ancestors? We're recent immigrants, but I got to make reperations? You need help.
