When did the DNC use superdelegates to take away a candidacy from the popular vote winner? I know Bernie tried to talk them into doing so last time, but they held firm for democracy. Not sure where this history of superdelegate abuse popped up from.

It was a system devised after George McGovern’s win as the nominee and then landslide defeat to Nixon in his second term.
