I’m not romanticizing American capitalism or American govt before the 1980s, but I can honestly tell you this: America wasn’t always the good guy but there was a general consensus we were supposed to be. When we weren’t, we were mentally healthy enough to hang our heads in shame.

America has done exactly what trump, appointees & party set forth into motion many years ago. Division by distraction. Deception. And destruction. America now firmly pitted against each other is in need of fresh leadership—moral leadership. That is @marwilliamson #Marianne2020

US presidents haven’t ‘called the shots’ when it comes to foreign policy for a VERY long time - the military industrial complex has. Trump is doing it now, and Obama before him, and Bush before him, and Clinton before him, and Bush Sr before him, and RR before him and Carter..etc

We started overthrowing governments (like Iran's democracy) in the 50s so you could probably turn that dial a few decades back.

Well said! All of this is sadly lost on Trump. He is the worst of us.

#Reagan was the byproduct of the US rightist underground having shot their way to power between 1963 & 1968 via the assassinations of the Kennedys and King. Alas we never replaced those varsity leaders. America pre-LBJ’s Vietnam War escalation was the normal country you refer-to.

Americans can't agree on what good even means. Is it nihilism or post- modernism that destroyed a common meaning all understood?

Like when we dropped the nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945? That was pure evil. You were just a child that didn’t understand that America perpetrates “good” for self-serving power and unbridled greed. It’s time to mature into an actual adult, Marianne.
