“Where government used to protect the farmer, it now does more to protect the farmer’s monopolistic corporate overlord. This is one of the saddest, most dangerous results of crony capitalism and the unholy conspiracy of government to protect it.” marianne2020.com/posts/endin…

It may not be popular but larger corporations can handle the downturn in farming better than the individual small farm. I never want to lose the small farm. But realistically farming is like gambling there’s lots of hope. Sometimes you lose.

Those large corporations are what caused the downturn in farming. They have devastated the lives of farmers, they have devastated the land, they have devastated the food, they have devastated animals and contaminated our water. But you think they’re the ones to fix it huh?

Mayors don't even get nominated for president. Please hold elective office, then come back later to run for president.

I submitted an op-ed to the NYTimes and the WaPo about what we are facing but sadly they chose not to run it. The title "Farming today is essentially a public service." Everyone makes money except me. You work hard, don't get paid & get in a mountain of debt things get grim.

The DOJ & the Ag Committees need to determine how prices are set by the outlets and if anti-competitive practices are taking place (they are). If determined ACTION must be taken or you will see the end of small family farms. See this thread:
A month ago local growers got $.52 per lb. for yellow onions. Today we’re getting $.22. I can’t pay my bills at that price. The avg price at the grocer is nearly $2.00. I do 95% of the work to get it there. Ask your grocer why can’t they pay a fair price.

Eve and I are totally defeated and despondent. She’s trying to pay bills. Hard to do with only 4 loads sold, the price what it was 30 years ago and no money coming in. Hard to take one day at a time when things are so grim. It doesn’t have to be this way. #sad

I’m looking for an absurdly wealthy benefactor to support a family onion farm. Criteria: must love farms, families and onions. Oh, and must be absurdly wealthy. Let’s make this tweet go viral folks! #onions #absurdlywealthy #sponsorafarm Retweet

Last night, as she struggled to pay bills, it was Eve’s turn to be upset. All I could say to her is we are in a horrible place now, point A. I believe we will eventually get to a good place, point B. We just have to get there & try to enjoy the ride best we can.

When will the United States Trade Representative initiate a formal inquiry into apparent unfair trade practices/dumping by Canada of onions, flowers, vegetables & other farm products into US markets, harming US farmers? #unfairtrade

The federal subsidy program has been actively trying to eliminate small farmers going back to Nixon, but we are persistent, and stubborn. We will get by, we will survive.
