We’re already in the habit of saying “Thank you for your service” when we meet military personnel. We should also say “Thank you for your service” every time we meet a public school teacher.

For turning our kids into a bunch of wimpy, safe space, ‘everyone gets a trophy’ socialists? No way unless I know that a teacher isn’t a brainwasher.

Fuck that, both are living off the theft of others.

Former military member: saying thank you for your service to each military member is a throwback compensation for the way returning Vietnam service members were treated and to a time when the military was significantly undercompensated. Neither of those two conditions persist.

Being in active service is more dangerous and not everyone can do it

I do. A few people around me will laugh nervously (unsure if I mean it?) but the teacher locks my eyes and says a sincere, "Thank you."

Maybe instead of “thank you for your service” we say “thank you for making a difference” - I’m sorry I won’t be telling a teacher thank you for their service - because they aren’t armed forces - no matter if they go to war or not. But I do thank them for making a difference :)
