In the 20th Century, Americans transitioned too often from rugged individualism to rugged narcissism. In the 21st C let’s embrace the understanding that our highest purpose is a purpose we share: to repair our country, and help to heal the entire world.

We can each begin by selling all of our monuments to our personal vanity; unnecessary watches, wedding rings and jewelry, as I did ten years ago to raise money to sponsor hundreds of working single mothers in Central America through organizations such as kiva.org
