The military has more than 130 bands with more than 6000 musicians, costing about a half-billion dollars a year. Meanwhile the National Endowment for the Arts gets $155M, a paltry amount compared to other advanced democracies. Arts & artists should be robustly funded & supported!

Soldier serving their country is Soldier serving their country. Should they all be killers and farm out the music to contractors that may screw the country. Please can we keep some traditions...

Agree 馃挴 There is so much abundance, and so much creativity to be unleashed in the communities of America. Art in all forms enriches all, whether we participate as an artist or not.

1. Why trust the federal gov't, currently run by Trump, to select artists for funding? 2. There's at least twice as much funding from state & local govs. 3. The US also uses tax status to subsidize the arts, which altogether get more funding in the US than any other nation.

So is the point that we should dissolve the bands and do some other type of music? Do hate bands? This may be the nuttiest tweet I鈥檝e seen from you.

USA is last on the list of first world countries in per capita funding for the arts & first for war. "War! What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!" Edwin Starr #peace

Then donate to them. To compare the two is a specious argument. Military bands are to improve the morale of our fighting forces, which, by definition, is a responsibility of the government for whom the men are wearing the uniform. Other artists are private sector.
