While the vast majority of police officers in this country are good men and women courageously serving us every single day, police shootings of innocent citizens - particularly black Americans - has reached intolerable numbers. A special Independent Commission must now be formed.

I hate that everyone feels they need to soften their statements by praising them 1st. Until the good cops hold the bad cops accountable they should all be considered bad cops. Stop pacifying this.

I agree with you that something needs to be done, and an Independent Commission is a great idea. Your argument would be further bolstered by statistics, say the number of police shootings of innocent civilians in 2018 as compared to some other year.

Yes indeed! This needs to be handled locally with state compliance and federal civil rights oversight. Each community needs a Citizens Police Review Board to which the police department is answerable, comprised of members of the community .

Where were you before now? This has been a problem for a longtime. Too little too late.

Thank you! for being specific acknowledging BLACK Americans, not black and brown or people of color.

Tasering blind (black) people, deaf (black) people, (black) people having heart attacks, (black) people in a diabetic attack... I used to collate the articles 2005-2015. Any violence by LEO including taser, patterned disproportionately to a subset, should be included.

A way to end all of this is to make it so only black people can be police officers.

@marwilliamson you're right and I believe your heart is in the right place, in the mean time, like all Americans, we have the right to life and 馃椊liberty and the right to protect ourselves.

I love you Marianne and I usually agree with you. I realize there are decent people working in corrupt institutions, but I don't think these problems would exist if the vast majority were courageous and good. Even the "good ones" protect their own at the expense of others.
