In order to transform we have to do more than just change things on the outside; we have to look deep inside ourselves. This is true for a country too; the US won’t transform until we’re willing to look at ways our public policy isn’t aligned with the angels of our better nature.

Only when we address the unnecessary suffering in our midst will we transform. Only when we become more reverent toward the earth will we transform. Only when we stop leading with brute force will we transform. Only when we’re willing to right historical wrongs will we transform.

A US president in the 21st-C should have as much understanding of the internal dynamics that cause people to change, as of the external dynamics that cause policy to change. We must treat more than symptoms; we must also treat cause. Otherwise symptoms simply morph into new ones.

“As our case is new we must think and act anew.” - Abraham Lincoln. How startlingly relevant and true that is today...

Take a look at David Brooks the New York Times columnist 9/21/19 The last paragraph of his article says it all “ in a widely diverse nation voters handed power to a leader who was a coalition builders not fighters the whole tenure of America politics changed.”Marianne Williamson

Treat the cause. When someone kills, find out why. When someone steals, find out why When someone lies, find out why. When someone goes bankrupt, find out the cause.

It is absolutley obscene to me, to think that a president should be in that position who doesn’t

Wonderful analogy! A person that is addicted to drugs will not get better by just treating the symptoms of the addiction. We have to go to what caused that addiction. Same with a nation, we cannot just clear up symptoms of hate and greed we must go deeper to the root of the cause

I think you can truly capture people's hearts too by saying what non-symptomatic life looks like. The question I have for you and myself today is how beautiful of a life can we paint for all Americans, and how well can it be a path and example they can replicate.
I so love it Marianne. Well said & understood by many, many & much more coming, of us. But @marwilliamson: TREATING CAUSE IS 1 OF YOUR UNIQUE QUALIFICATIONS (compared to all other candidates) AND THE UNIQUE DEMAND our world has. Also, the one the “empowered” ones are afraid of.
