I was born and raised in Texas so I’ve seen it. Millions of people today are praying that Dorian turn away from land, and treating those people with mockery or condescension because they believe it could help is part of how the overly secularized Left has lost lots of voters.

When I was growing up there was a vital religious Left. It is BECAUSE of my spiritual views that I’m a Democrat. The idea that religious or spiritual people should find no home in the Democratic Party is hardly the view of someone wanting to win in 2020.

Nobody’s saying Democrats can’t be religious, just not delusional. Was it the praying that kept Dorian parked over the Bahamas? Were their prayers is not strong enough?

The vital religious left concerns itself with social justice and good works, not with praying problems away.

There is still a thriving religious left. They tend to believe that whatever higher power may exist works through the power of people working together for good, not through wishing.

Religious people do have a home in the Democratic party. We just don't force it on anyone, or use it instead of preparation, or science. Please stop whining #MorningJoe

The people of the Bahamas are highly spiritual & religious. They prayed non-stop for two days while they were clinging to the rafters in their attics. You are welcome in any party - but work with fact, not fiction. We already have one president who is out of touch with reality.

There still is a vital religious left. The difference is that what you call "over secularization" is what I call a reluctance to have religious beliefs guide policy. This is important when not all faiths (or even faith at all) are shared in the constituency.

Thank you, Marianne! You are the rock in the storm for a so many. We LOVE you! For the haters... who do you think is more effective at getting a job done?... the one who insults others during a hurricane or the one who finds inner peace and shares comfort while helping others?

That idea doesn’t exist. Look at @RevDrBarber. He can speak clearly on moral imperatives while still believing in science. There’s ample love, tolerance, and compassion on the left. That said, one does not have to be religious to be loving, tolerant, and compassionate.

That's utter crap. I know and have family members who are religious and spiritual. Hell. I'm even spiritual. We're all on the left side of the aisle but if your solution to every potential disaster is to pray it away, you're engaging in pure anti-intellectualism.

There are plenty of spiritual Democrats. We just don’t use it to try to control others.
