I was born and raised in Texas so I’ve seen it. Millions of people today are praying that Dorian turn away from land, and treating those people with mockery or condescension because they believe it could help is part of how the overly secularized Left has lost lots of voters.

I was born and raised in Texas too. What you wrote implies that either they didn't pray hard enough for the Bahamas or those who lost their lives there somehow deserved God's wrath. You mean well but it's actually a bit crass when you really take the time to think about it.

How extremely arrogant to think that a god would respond to your prayers while ignoring millions of others. Did the people of the Bahamas not pray? Did other victims of natural disasters not pray to be spared? The arrogance of the religious is why I turned away from religion.

One of the great things about our country is that we all don't have to believe the same thing. If some people believe in prayer then they should definitely pray. If other people don't believe in God or prayer then they don't have to pray. That doesn't make them overly secularized

So the prayers of those people outwiegh the prayers of the Bahamians? What makes those people better? If prayers worked then there wouldn't be Mass Shootings & Tornado Alley wouldnt be a thing.

Millions of people today are tired of the absurdity of magical thinking. Treating those people with mockery & condescension is part of how the overly religious Right is losing a generation of voters. Don't join them in being a punchline (though I fear it may be too late for you)

Praying has done wonders for mass shootings and income inequality. I don't make fun of legitimate faith but those who make a point of announcing their prayers on social media are, you must admit, kind of missing the point

It doesn't matter what Dorian does; Evangelical preachers will blame the storm on gay people. They've done it every natural disaster. #BeBetter The left isn't secularized, we just don't believe religion should control the gov't. #voteblue, hypocrite

The point is we shouldn't mock anyone's sincere beliefs. Believe in science, believe in separation of church and state, but be kind. Be kind and tolerant. I am fully aware that politically I am often neither, but I'm trying. That's all we can do.
