I was born and raised in Texas so I’ve seen it. Millions of people today are praying that Dorian turn away from land, and treating those people with mockery or condescension because they believe it could help is part of how the overly secularized Left has lost lots of voters.

Believing in science instead of fairy tales is not "overly secularized", Marianne. This extremist behavior is why practical minded people are fleeing the churches in droves.

Not overly secularized here and I don’t think prayers do much — if they did, we’d have reasonable gun laws. So, nahhh.

Those who believe that their thoughts can turn a hurricane away have no business making real life policy decisions for the rest of us.

No. It's ridiculous superstition that doesn't deserve to be coddled.

I was born and raised in Texas and I'm still here..helping storm victims. I once sat in a congregation and tried to pray for a storm to turn away. I NOW KNOW how dangerous these ideas are is, as I'm STILL helping people recover from Harvey. Please stop. This gets people killed.

So you're saying all the dead people in Bahamas were bad at praying and killed by god's wrath? You going to stick with this when Dorian tears the coasts of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina to pieces?

The universe is a field of energy, our thoughts are energy fields. Why is it so crazy to consider the possibility of an energy field affecting another? You don't have to call it God, but you can, the labels and visual aids are secondary. Marianne is aligned with new possibilities

We’ve been hearing “thoughts and prayers” for years. When a hurricane hits, when a mass shooting happens, etc. Tell me about your plans to fight climate change and end gun violence, and I’ll listen. I won’t listen to your prayers because they won’t stop the tragedies.

Telling people that are trying to pray away a hurricane to do something that’s actually productive with their time and money is not political. It’s common sense. Donate money, hand out blankets, Go rescue the animals. Do not support lunacy. It’s irresponsible.
