Economic theory empowered by the United States government over the last 40 years has brought us to where we are. Given that 1% of Americans own more wealth than the bottom 90%, little that it offers should necessarily be used to guide us now.

Untrue - you ignore human nature (as with that apology stunt) I will put this as bluntly as possible, and ask you to consider one question. Normal distribution of human nature would indicate a significant number will not agree. (Millions) What do you do with (or to) them?
