Years ago I attended a service w/ a Catholic priest who had Catholics apologize to non-Catholics for historical wrongs committed by the Church. I found it very moving & have been proud to do something similar regarding blacks & Native Americans in America. Nothing silly about it.

Catholics living today didn't participate in the Inquisition, either! And this isn't about guilt, it's about responsibility. There are psychological and emotional scars that affect whole groups of people and in the 21st Century we have a deeper understanding of historical trauma.

My parents emigrated (legally) from Greece in 1968. What in the hell do they or I have to do with slavery? And btw- the white man didn’t invent slavery. But the white man abolished it. Take some pride in that and stop pandering for votes. It’s unbecoming.

No. Victim hood is not positive move on.
What about personal trauma? You want groups of certain people to apologise so you can keep the racist narrative alive. You may fool a lot of people but you are not fooling people who know the Truth. Who do you pray to?
In order to be responsible for something you have to have had some degree of control over it. How exactly am I responsible for the historical mistreatment of black people?

I'm so conflicted - my mother's side was Protestant, and my father's side was Roman Catholic. Do I apologize to myself? My scars run really, really historically deep.

We are applying today’s sensitivities to events that happened centuries ago commited by people we can’t hope to understand. Narcissism doesn’t begin to describe it. It’s deeply unhealthy and dishonest.

I'd like to see the distinction more clearly. If white people are to take responsibility for actions centuries ago, how exactly is that different from accepting guilt? I'm all for healing historical wounds, but I must admit this irks me.

The government officially apologized about ten years ago. So what’s the problem?
