Years ago I attended a service w/ a Catholic priest who had Catholics apologize to non-Catholics for historical wrongs committed by the Church. I found it very moving & have been proud to do something similar regarding blacks & Native Americans in America. Nothing silly about it.

Not silly. Much worse, it was presumptive of you.

I too found it to be a moving expression in the right direction with respect to historical wrongs done to Blacks.

She wrote an inspiring prayer, one for African Americans, one for Native Americans. When done in a group circle it is a Powerful emotional experience, cathartic, and brings tears.

Do you really think that convincing African Americans that all their problems are the fault of the evil white man and are beyond their own control is going to help? It is the most un-aspirational message you could possibly deliver.

I have worked on the Apache reservation for years and their tribal medicine men with the Catholic priest went to a neutral location to apologize to the Mexican tribe for stealing their women and children to rebuild the Apache tribe. It was very powerful for both sides! #healing

1. Do not refer to us as “blacks” 2. Capital ‘B’ when discussing Black people

Maybe the people offended by this or ridiculing it need to hear from some of the people who have taken part in these events. The critics are not getting the catharsis.

It really says something about our society that people’s first reaction to trying to apologize for historic wrongs is ridicule. It’s an important first step in the right direction.
