Who we were? Well, originally, property owning, rich white male supremacy was written into the constitution. It was buttressed by white male preachers in the south discarding the gospel of Jesus and highlighting the way of empires instead. Both are still here today.

Actually, America is not having an identity crisis in the inner recesses of our government, but rather, the "shadow" government has its own clear, private agenda separate from the public one.

the people who put themselves under the banner of the right/conservative have proven themselves to be purpose and mission driven and have played a long game which is bearing fruit for them now. The rest of us need to light a fire in ourselves to take action in the name of love.

I agree with him. I think we will need a combination of a federal jobs guarantee - probably through something like a Green New Deal - and UBI. A tsunami of automation is coming; if we do not prepare for it it could be economically catastrophic.
