Reparations go beyond closing an economic divide; done well, they close a chapter of American history. They go further than ending an evil, which generations before us did. It is our job now to make restitution for the evil, in economic terms where the wound still festers.

Okay, no. There is noone to pay the debt and noone who suffered from it directly. What are we gonna do? Reparations can only go from country to country. Not from one group to another. You are gonna start a race war. That doesn't help.

No, reparations do not go country to country. This is not about starting a race war; it’s about ending one — a subtle, insidious, underground war between those who are owed compensation and those who owe it. As a Jew, I can tell you that wronged ancestors cry out for justice.

You can't hold accountable for the sins of the past the descendants of the perpetrator. What is the plan ? WHO EXCACTLY has been wronged ? Every group! Period ? Some more than others, but in the end, EVERYONE. If you want to work towards peace, then don't make ridiculous demands

No, not everyone has been wronged with 2 1/2 centuries of slavery followed by another 100 years of institutionalized violence. An educated understanding of history shows that the income gap between blacks & whites today is a clear legacy of slavery, a continued pattern of racism.

What happens if, after reparations are paid, there is still a persistent income gap? Im not against reparations on principle, but I fear it will do little to repair the hostility and division between black and white.

Slavery is not something that has happened exclusively to black people, quite the contrary. Empowering the individual to take their life into their hands is much purer and meaningful to a person than to just give them unearned wealth. Who is worse off then?
