Reparations go beyond closing an economic divide; done well, they close a chapter of American history. They go further than ending an evil, which generations before us did. It is our job now to make restitution for the evil, in economic terms where the wound still festers.

General Sherman offered 40 acres and a mule to freed slaves. Reparations for the travesty of slavery, as crafted by @marwilliamson, present that same potential to lift up a generation. This can present thousands with seed money for their visions, and tuition to help form them

No one ali e today is responsible for what happened over 200 years ago. Are you going to use your personal funds to pay this? Who would you pay? No one left from that time.

Reparations are good but I think the chapter will only be closed when either we are all brown skinned or we are all taught from childhood that difference is not to be feared.
