The US should pay reparations for slavery in the form of $100B given to educational and economic renewal in the black community, just as Germany paid $89B in reparations to Jews after WW2 & the US paid $20,000 in reparations to each surviving victim of Japanese internment camps.

Far too small an amount. Please see the calculations in my forthcoming book with @IrstenKMullen, From Here to Equality, expected from UNC Press, Feb. 2020

Agreed 100 billion for reparations is a slap in the face. This is a discussion of redistribution, their is no understanding of what was stolen and needs to be repaired. #AmericanDOS are America.

Well who else but us are even talking about it? The amount might not be enough, and Marianne @marwilliamson is not an Economist, but at least she has the "balls" to consider it as a concrete measure... IJS. We caint be out here attacking people that are on our side.

Not an attack. A critical correction. We cannot afford to allow incomplete or inadequate programs to pass for reparations.

I was referring to Tones "slap in the face" assessment. I have been trying to get the attention of breaking brown and tone talks fams onto MW's bid since Nov. The point is that we can start to help shape this 'dialog' in a real and non-rhetorical way.

$1B /42M people is less than $2500 per person. That's a tax refund. Yes the conversation should be had and if she is an ally then she needs to come to @tonetalks @BreakingBrown @SandyDarity to start that conversation.

I said $100 billion, not $1 billion. Also, reparations are not paid to individuals. They would be funds disbursed to programs that benefit economic and educational renewal, as determined by a Reparations Council of black leaders chosen from across culture, politics and academia.

I accidentally left off the two zeros but the less than $2500 is still correct and that would effectively be the amount per person no matter how it is distributed or disbursed and it's not enough.
