Americans had lost our emotional connection to democracy, a sense of why it matters to us & to the world. Taking it for granted we failed to tend to it; having failed to tend to it we now see it threatened. We can consider this a wake-up call. We were sleeping & now we’re waking.

Respectfully, I disagree. Americans had perhaps an overly emotional connection to democracy after decades of being ignored by their representatives in Congress. Corruption, and ignorance of the constituency created the government we have today. In short, people were pissed.

Yes! And some of this loss of connection has been lost through the lack of civics in education and the lack of teaching more recent history in schools. History focuses so much in Ancient Civilizations, Western Civilization, and U.S. History. We need the last 100 years taught.

"Greed corrupts human nature". "Loose money teaches greed". As long as America has its hegemony over others, As long as there are those who bow his head and pay America will remain indifferent to a minimum positive value being arrogant on its own no one is able to deter or advice
