We should all be clear: millions of Germans in 30s-40s, when asked if they knew where their neighbors had disappeared to, responded by saying “Oh let’s not think about that! Let’s just be positive!” There is nothing unspiritual about being disturbed in genuinely disturbing times.

I don't think they wanted to be positive. they did not care. most poles asked about the jews after the war said they were glad they were gone. Antisemitism. no spirituality involved there- only evil.

You are correct from my history lessons. Also from my step father who escaped capture and possible death on Xmas eve as he and his family were able to board a ship to America with only the clothes on their backs. They suffered so. Americans need to be educated!
